And I'm showing it to you guys, cuz I'm aight with y'all. But if one of you scoops it up before I figure out a way to get it...I'll be sad. So its a 2001 Ford Focus ZX3. 2.0 liter Zetec I4, 0-60 in like 9 seconds. 5spd Manual, 206k, asking price is $2,200. It's <1 hour from my house.
AAAAnd thats about where the boring stops. It's an SCCA rallycross car, which is street legal and apparently the guy DDs it. It still has all 5 seats, and no rollcage. So not only can it carry people, but there's no risk of head injury on a cage if you crash (If any of you remebered my Neon, that was a major issue). It even appears to still have an airbag, which makes zero sense since you'd assume a rally car's bag would pop the second you started a stage. It even has CUPHOLDERS. My "Luxurious" 1991 Audi doesn't even have those!
It's got sweet rally foglights, an extended steeeeck, and mudflaps. It's the real deal, with realy rally suspension too. And street legal. For $2200....
My parents, who have the final say, are not on board. They want me focusing on schoolwork/college stuff/getting scholarships, and there's no space in the garage since my dad still hasn't sold the Mustang. So I guess I'll just stare at it until I find a way to get it.

Buy it.
Park it on the street or driveway.
Have fun.

Well the thing is, A) I don't have much money, and B) I'm 17. So while it would probably be ridiculously cheap to insure and to purchase up front, my parents (who basically have the right to decide whether or not I buy a car) are extremely concerned with the high mileage factor, even for $2k. Also, if I did buy it, I'd be DDing it. As in about 100-200 miles a week. Which I think also scares them a bit. But man, do I want it. My first car was an Ex-SCCA Dodge Neon ACR, and I loved it. So much fun.

The 2000 models aren't good at all. Stick to 2002 and newer. That's also when the 4-door hatchback became available over here.
The thermostat housing WILL go if it hasn't already. Hopefully he upgraded it to the Contour's more robust housing.
Actually, that price is actually high for what you're getting: a high-mileage car that has taken such a beating.
The cupholders on the doors are fucking awesome though. (they didn't come stock)

Definitely good to know, especially considering I know almost nothing about the ZX3s and would probably be way over my head if I ever did end up getting this one. And my thought process was that since the guy is both Rallycrossing and DDing it with that mileage, he hopefully has done all kinds of maintenance and replacing in order to ensure it doesn't die, which I plan on asking about tonight. Hopefully he has, although it's not likely.

Your parents might be right on this one. This thing could very well become a bit of a handful.

Indeed. I'm kind of banking on him maintaining it really well/replacing whatever needs it due to the fact that he says he both rallies/DDs it, meaning it would need to be able to cope with the abuse, but I'll find that out once I talk to him.

It's a gift. Or really a curse.
